Challenges of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in 2030

Virtual Reality has become a popular form of technology as of last year. The main way it has been seen is in video games where you put a large headset on and are then able to step into another world while using controls to go through many adventures. With that being said, Virtual Reality can easily veer off of video games and become a day to day useful piece of technology; just like a cellphone. However, there are some challenges that will have to be fixed in order for Virtual Reality to become accessible to all in the future.

After doing some research, the main challenge I found it that it is very expensive. According to Network World, they stated that the price of VR can range from $949-$3000 (Boyaijan, 2017). This can be an issue for many people because if VR becomes as popular in the future as many think it will, people might not be able to afford it. Just like the cellphone, VR in the future has the possibility of becoming a daily necessity and can be troublesome if one does not have it.

Another challenge is that it can make people become very anti-social (Dalrymple, 2017). This can happen because people will be in  a room but instead of a face to face conversation they will have a big box covering their eyes (Dalrymple, 2017). A challenge ensues with this because millennials are already becoming very anti-social with constantly being glued to their phones on social media and now with Virtual Reality in the future, it can become even worse.

Virtual Reality needs to become more mobile in the future (Wiltz, 2017). When you put the headset on your head it tends to be connected to a computer or phone with different cords. That can become difficult because you will not be able to move around and fully experience the Virtual Reality because you have to be holding the cords and hopefully not trip on them. In the future, producers need to learn how to make the devices lighter and wireless.

How are Social Media and AR/VR going to interact in 2030

Here are few ideas of how social media will look like in 12 years from now ·          It will be more experiential, rather than what it is now, representative media. Experiential meaning involving all the senses, stimulating the participants perception of touch, taste and smell alongside sight, suggests Toshi Hoo, director of the IFTF’s (Institute for the Future) Emerging Media Lab  (Walker, J., 2017). ·          Hoo also mentions that there will be a fundamental shift in the way the information is presented and experienced. With social media adding AR and VR, it won’t be one dimensional as it is now.  (Walker, J., 2017).           By   2030, the web will have escaped the screen. There will be chance to create alternative  scenarios and you will be able to communicate with people from different countries or places and the lines between what is real an...

Image retrieved from https://www.statista.com/chart/4602/virtual-and-augmented-reality-software-revenue/       The two biggest companies that are taking over media are Apple and Google. They are the companies that are able to take augmented reality further into the future. After reading an article from  new gen apps  I was able to see how these companies are going to introduce augmented reality into their programs. Apple: Last year Apple released ARkit, which "will help developers create augmented reality apps for apple devices" (new gen apps, 2017). They are also in talks about created a headset, that will most likely be able to plug into the headphone jack and people are able to step into an alternate universe using their phones (new gen apps, 2017).
