For Decades now, humans have used the help of technology to
make their day to day lives easier. Slowly but surely technology has made its
way through all aspects of life, whether it be through transportation,
communication or shopping. When dealing
with VR in Education, students would be able to block out the physical world and
transport themselves, using a stimulator. (Otero, 2018) When it comes to
education and learning, VR has been tested out in a few interest areas, for
example; something as simple as getting your driver's licence. There are some
driving schools that have stimulators set up for you to get a feel of driving
before actually take to the streets. This way students are given the exact same experience of driving, by the use of the stimulator. This is a great addition to the whole practical experience because if they do make mistakes, no one is at risk. By the use of the stimulator, the instructors can also make up challenging real life situations, which will enhance both what the students learn as well as their experience.
Taking a closer look at VR in the classroom settings, it
will basically make all written concepts and pictures come to life in a more
tangible way. With the use of special glasses and Virtual Headsets, education
will have a whole new meaning. As augmented reality has allowed students to
have a hands-on feel of concepts that are complex, Virtual Reality enables users
to submerge themselves in a virtual world and experience information in first
person, using all their senses (Otero, 2018)
Imagine taking a field trip, with the use of Virtual Head
Sets. You would not have to take a bus anywhere. It will give the same
experience as really walking through a museum. With this technology, students
will be able to walk through the museum, look through books and watch all sorts
of presentations. Not only will this experience be more convenient to all the
students in the school, but it will also cut down costs for the school and the
teachers. The use of VR will give children the opportunity to gain experience
they would have never thought they could have, taking field trips to different
country’s without having to spend a whole lot of money. (Dunwill, 2016)
From all the research that was done, reading through all of
this. It's really interesting to see how technology is making such a positive
impact in making education better. By 2030 Virtual Reality will make it possible for users to immerse themselves in alternative scenarios, serving as a
preparation for future situations. (Otero, 2018)
