When you log onto your social media accounts, there are many ads that pop up in between posts. These are usually dependable on what you search on the web or on other social media platforms. When an ad pops up, there can be times when you do not want to click on it because it is either not something you want or are just not interested. With Virtual Reality, it can make ads more exciting because you can almost step into the product they are selling instead of just scrolling through the ad. An example given in an article was that "rather than a hard 30-second TV-style commercial: Mercedes-Benz made a 2-minute long VR video, showing what it is like to be inside its 2016 SL model, in the passenger seat, driving along the Pacific Coast Highway (Hackl, 2017).
This can become a challenge because social media outlets would rather have the more interactive ads rather than a boring video about the product. Therefore some companies who maybe are not able to afford animated virtual ads they can lose out on consumers seeing their products. Which will then cause the social media outlets to also lose money due to the lack of companies willing to put that much into their ads.
The social media platform that will take a hit the most is YouTube. That is because many 'youtubers' make their money off of companies showing their ads before the video plays. If again, companies are not willing to put money into their ads then there will not be any showing before videos. Which will then make the 'youtubers' lose money and cause them to many less and less videos due to the lack of profit being made. This will make YouTube not as popular.
Overall, the main issue of virtual reality taking over ads is the amount of money going into it or the amount of money being lost due to a boring 30 second video.
