Introduction
Social
Media and Augmented/Virtual Reality in 2030
It is a bit challenging to
predict what is going to happen in 12 years from now in the world of social
media, with all the changes happening so fast. One thing is for sure, as
changes happen, we adjust or at least we try, and all those new experiences can
be very exciting and more hands on to captivate the
audiences. That is the case
of Virtual and Augmented Reality in Social media. Right now, there is a big
growing trend and those technologies are slowly being incorporated into social
media sites.
A definition of the terms used
in this blog is necessary. Social media could be defined as one or many
platforms used nowadays to communicate with those near or far away from us, via
different type of technologies like computers, iPad, tablets, and mostly,
smartphones. The most used and famous platforms for social media are Facebook,
Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube, Twitter and so on. Those platforms try to
reinvent themselves constantly to keep their audiences hooked and entertained
so they do not switch to other platforms. In those social media platforms, we
usually share pictures, stories, videos or things from our personal life. To
keep things interesting and exciting, big brands add their ads, who are usually
in the social sites, are bringing AR to their ads to enhance the products or
make them more appealing, thus increasing sales.
The incorporation of those new
technologies, VR/AR, will make the future sound appealing and exciting in many
areas, for example in areas like Education, bringing AR and VR will help enhance
the experience, it would be more hands-on learning and students who are visual
learners for example, will find easier to grasp concepts that before were a bit
difficult. In business, we will see that the use of those technologies will create
a more real experience with the product, giving the costumer the power of
decision, after trying or testing the product via these technologies.
In terms of social media, the
changes are going to be huge, after these technologies take over the world of
social media, it will change the way we communicate. It will be and feel like
the world is out of the screen, and the experience of interacting with friends
and acquaintances will feel like it is real. Some of those predictions on how the social
media world will change can be seen already; we can get a glimpse on how they
will look like with apps that are on the market, like SpokeHub. Additionally,
there are movies like the one mention in one of these blogs, “Ready player one”
where the gaming world, and social media interact together in a way that looks
so real that it may be difficult to separate reality from VR. Or the concept of
VR sociable network, where we can be fully inserted in a form of an avatar in a
VR world, chatting with our friends in any setting we want to imagine. With all
these new possibilities, the concept of real life is going to be questionable…
who would want to live in the real world where they can be immersed in the
ideal one?
